The police has ordered a closure of a sedition case lodged against 50 artistes — including Shyam Benegal, Mani Ratnam and Anurag Kashyap — who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year seeking his intervention in the rising incidence of mob lynching. It was revealed that allegations "lacked substance". Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar asserted that BJP had "nothing to do" with the case and alluded that the job was the misdoings of those degrading the government.
